Separate bedroom for children - yay or nay?

Separate bedroom for children and babies upto 10 years of age? Is it a good idea or not? Read below to find out.

Definitely no for infants. They need warmth and being close to the parents helps create the special bond. You may still choose to have a separate room for infants if the regulations say so or you are unable to do so due to other reasons.

The decision of how long to co-sleep is totally a parents call I’d say. But the ‘transition’ to another room has to happen some day. The transition decision maybe based on the pros and cons listed below:

Pros- Parents get their ‘us-time’ like the pre-child days Children become independent sooner than expected Family learns to respect everyone’s space

Cons- The bonding time and skin-to-skin touch is reduced some laws and regulations suggest against it baby monitor / some form of surveillance is a must The American Academy of Pediatrics, recommends that to lower the chances for SIDS(Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) , room-sharing is advised for at least 6 months, and ideally 12 months, in the same bedroom but not the same bed.
